@ vaccines

I’ve been thinking about vaccines lately.

It seams to be a hot topic in the world today specially among doctors. I’m glad I don’t live in Europe because I’m sure I would get a lot more negative social pressure on the topic and, most likely, be accused of being a negligent mother.

I remember when I started going to secular school, at the age of 8, I had to get all my shots, I had none before that, but it was mandatory; or I would be putting all the other students at risk. So get them I did. I got pretty sick for a week or so.

I only started thinking about this because when my daughter was two weeks old I realized one of her clavicles wasn’t right, so I had to first take her to the pediatrician and then to a specialist, another doctor. It turned out her clavicle was broken, most likely from the birth. But, here comes what I want to share with you dear reader, when I took her to the pediatrician he was very much in shock that I hadn’t taken her in to get vaccinated for any of the deceases they have vaccines now a days. He ended up giving me a big lecture on the issue; advocating the benefits of this modern day advance. If I had to summarize in a thought what he said it would go something like this: Maybe for other country that’s ok but you better be very sure about your decision of not vaccinating your kids, you live in Mexico, are you aware of what kind of risks you are taking?. I confess I was caught off guard and presented a not very convincing argument on the matter.

I know Mexico is considered a third world country were a lot of sicknesses like tuberculosis, polio, etc aren’t eradicated still.

During the Christmas Season one of our CTP’s, that we named, Los Angeles de la Noche, involved going to the Children’s Hospital at night to pass out warm tea, coffee and sweet bread, as well as giving them blankets, warm clothing and praying with the parents and families that were staying outside, in the best of cases living in their cars while their son or daughter is getting medical treatment sometimes for a few days, weeks, or even months. Most of the people we met live in little communities and ranchos that are far from everything else, so the parents bring their other kids along and do what they can to survive while they wait; since they can’t afford to make the trip back and forth.

This one simple couple we met had sold their only cow to be able to afford coming to the capital to bring in their son. Most people sleep outside of the hospital on card boards and other things they find in the garbage. One lady I personally spend some time with was there because her ten year old daughter had lupus. It was quite a heart breaking experience, nothing like having one of your children sick to make you really desperate. The reason I got into this is because it was there and then that I learned that there are a lot of deceases that are still very much circulating which I thought were controlled or no longer existent. A bit of an eye opener if you will, it’s easy to take for granted the Lord’s supernatural protection when you’ve always had it.

To add to that a couple days ago going for get out I met a girl about eleven that had a crippled leg, she fell in the park and hit her head on the slide so I prayed with her I ended up befriending her mom and it turned out they were cristians and that she had had meningitis as a baby and that’s why her leg was like that.

And I thought after, could a vaccine have prevented that?

I have researched the Word about it. None of my children have ever been vaccinated and I know the Lord is our best Protector, but I would like to know what other parents think about vaccines, so if you have any imput or thoughts on the matter please feel free to share them and leave a comment.

When my son was born we went through with the vaccination schedule just like the Dr.'s recommended. A few people cringed at our decision and at the time I didn't understand why they believed it was so bad. Now years later I regret our decision...not necessarily because I gave him the vaccines but because I did not educate myself on the risk vs. benefits of them. When I finally read up on it I felt like I had taken a few risks that I wasn't entirely comfortable with. I believe that it's our job as parents to make informed decisions. As for vaccinations I think a lot of parents go with what their Dr.'s recommend because in doing so they absolve themselves of any responsibility should something happen either way, either from taking the vaccine or from not taking the vaccine (let's face it, it's a huge responsibility either way.)

Ultimately I think vaccines should be a personal decision based on each child and each family's personal situations.

"Evidence suggests that vaccination is an unreliable means of preventing disease."
"It is unclear the impact vaccines had on the infectious disease."

"Many of the assumptions upon which immunization theory and practice are based have been proven false in their application."
"Dangers of childhood diseases are greatly exaggerated in order to scare parents into compliance with a questionable but profitable procedure."
"Vaccines caused substantial increases in polio after years of steady declines, & they are the sole cause of polio in the U.S today."
" The long-term adverse effects of vaccinations have been virtually ignored, in spite of direct correlations with many chronic conditions."
(excerpts of Kidland pgs.774-785)

well.. vaccination has helped a lot, consider ppl used to die of disease, such as small pox, etc. There used to be widespread epidemics and the death rate was usually pretty high. So overall vaccinations have helped, there are still cases of these diseases but even then it's under control.
It is a very difficult decision to make, as there are a lot of pros and cons to either side. I'm just presenting the 'other' side for the sake of argument.
I gave my kids their vaccinations because: A. In Italy you go to jail if you don't. B. Here in the US its mandatory if you want ur kids to go to school.
Both my kids are very healthy, smart, and happy.. so it's not that scary.

It's a choice you have to take...as a parent...& the risks are yours as well...so best to pray & make sure it's the lords will, as each case is different. The effects on your kid could be life long...so yeah..it's not a light topic....& most doctors will tell you all the benefits ...nothing about the side effects or what could really happen..especially since most of them don't even know themselves...so anyways. Be sure your doing the right thing.

Tks for your comments loxyfady, kayleen ann and wake.

I believe you brought a good point about making informed prayerful decisions. And it's very true doctors don't always know what they are talking about, but it's easy to feel intimidated by what they say, out of pure ignorance sometimes.
Tks for ur input.

It's been one of the issues that I had a hard time with. I wanted to do what the Lord wants me to do. I live in Europe, and yes it's mandatory, so I've always prayed over my child and ask the Lord for protection. When I went to Mexico, I found myself in a situation when I was out of my country so I felt I need to repray. I did not vaccinate my third child. Now when I'm back in Europe I need to face lots of opposition and people are shocked. When I agreed that my son will be vaccinated again, something came up, and another year went by without vaccinating. I'm glad that the pediatritian I have respects my stands and natural healing methods. But he can go only so far, so vaccinating is one of the things he would get in trouble with himself. So my conclusion is...PRAY..when vaccinating or not. The Lord's protection is amazing.
